Bisphenol A

Step 1 of up to 3

Bisphenol A is the polycarbonate / epoxy monomer that built half the modern plastics industry. Symmetric and easy to walk back: it is just two phenols bolted onto an acetone via Friedel-Crafts alkylation in acid. Cut either C-aryl bond first; the symmetry means both ideal cuts are equivalent.
